How to create pixel art in Minecraft

The creation of pixel art is very easy. All you do is replace each pixel in an image with a block that most closely matches the color of that pixel. People usually only use wool as the matching textures often look better, but you can use any blocks.

There are tons of pixelated images on the Internet, both original works of art and images from famous cartoons, movies, and other forms of entertainment

However, you can also change higher resolution images to a pixelated version, this way you can create images of pretty much anything on your server.

Note, however, that when you're recreating something with different shades of the same color, it's often best to stick with one color. There are 2 different shades of green wool, but when you mix them the end result often looks weird and ugly, so stick with the shade of green that is used the most in the original image.

PIXELETING AN IMAGE

The best way to reduce the number of colors and pixels in an image is to save it in 16-bit format, which Paint and other editing programs can do. This will reduce the amount of colors in the image, making it look less sharp, but it will make creating this image in Minecraft a lot easier, especially if you only want to use wool.

You can also save your image as a monochrome bitmap, which removes all color and gives you a pixelated, black image that's very easy to recreate in Minecraft.

You may want to resize your image, which will further reduce the number of pixels and give you a manageable sized image to recreate in Minecraft.

LARGER OR SMALLER PIXEL ART VERSIONS

Not only do you have to use 1 block for each pixel, you can use 2×2, 3×3 or even more blocks per pixel to create larger versions. The reverse is also true, but it's much more difficult to create smaller versions without resizing the image in an editor like Paint.

3D PIXEL ART

3D pixel art not too different from 2D pixel art, you simply repeat the steps in multiple dimensions. However, there is a problem with 3D pixel art, namely that the corners do not always match the image version.

An image uses 2D pixels while we use 3D blocks, which means there is no space to use 2 different colors on the corners, but using only 1 color is usually fine.

This is best used on huge builds, although creating regular corners usually looks better.
